Once again, it is that time of the year when the NFL owners meet to discuss the possible future hosts of the Super Bowl. The San Fransisco 49ers
hosted the event in 2015 and this particular event was decided upon during the 2013 owners meeting. The Super Bowl 50 was held at the team's new Levi's Stadium. The 49ers odds during that season were tied to a couple of other teams including the Cardinals
. In 2018, the owners are focusing on Super Bowl 57 and 58. These events will take place in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
While it is not possible to know where the Super Bowl will head before the vote happens, there has been speculation in the media on possible venues. Some reports have indicated that New Orleans and Arizona
could get to host these events. The 49ers had ambitions of hosting those games and there were propositions made towards that direction. The president of the team even made an announcement of the same during last year's State of the Franchise. As of now though, it appears that the chatter has died down and it is unlikely that the team will get to host either of the events.
The team has not completely shelved the ambitions of hosting a Super Bowl in the near future though. There has been news circulating from one of the team's writers that there is a plan to have the Super Bowl 59 or 60. The plans have apparently been put forth and it is expected that the team will bid for those events which will take place in 2025 and 2026. The said reporter, Cam Inman, has noted that big expansions will be made to the area around the stadium in an effort to increase the team's chances. The bid is definitely expected to be competitive since the Raiders
, who will be then in Las Vegas, will also be expected to bid on the same events.
There is already a stadium being built for the Raiders and upon completion in 2020, it will be a prime location for a Super Bowl event. The construction is expected to go on without any interruptions. Even if there are delays, the team will most likely still be in contention for the planned events. So far, all the Super Bowl events from 2019 to 2024 have been awarded to different locations including Atlanta (2019), Miami
(2020), Tampa (2021), and Los Angeles
(2022). This means that the Raiders and Las Vegas have a fair chance of finishing the and landing the hosting rights on time.
There is already an established tradition where a couple of locations are featured in the Super Bowl rotation. These areas include Arizona, South Florida, Tampa and New Orleans. Should they make plans to get into the current setup, the 49ers will be in the same rotation pool with Las Vegas and Los Angeles
. Cumulatively, this will translate to a total of four stadiums between the Rams, Chargers
, 49ers, and Raiders. Los Angeles and Las Vegas will probably have an edge in the rotation should all the current arrangements go as planned.
