Golden Chance for the Niners to Battle the NFC West Conquest
The 49ers are the team to beat in the NFC West. This is after the Seahawks finished 9-7 in the last season, losing the privilege of being the team to beat. As the 2018 season fast approaches, Seattle will contend with less appearances at the playoffs. The Seahawks have retained both coach Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson; the quarterback. For the first time, Carroll has sent his top assistants packing including two coordinators and the offensive line coach Tom Cable. While Seattle is cleaning house, the 49ers have a chance to tackle Los Angeles Rams in the top half of the division.
There is no doubt that the 49ers odds to win NFC West are very high. There are future uncertainties about many Seattle players. To begin with, cornerback Richard Sherman is on his way out. Also, Bennetts who is a key defensive player was traded to Philadelphia. The fate of safeties Thomas and Chancellor remains unknown. Avril, the defensive end is another key player with an unclear future in Seattle. According to the Seahawks head coach, the off-season will continue to see many alterations. This is in a bid to give the franchise a new lease on life. The coach was categorical that it is all about looking for the right players to fill the right positions. He said this while at an NFL scouting even in Indianapolis.
Carroll is looking to keep his line up updated to meet the needs of the league. The coach went on to add that by choosing the right people, making critical cutting decisions is a must. However, he said that this is the only way to get things moving and to get the job done. The beginning of 2014 saw the Seahawks dismantle the 49ers in the NFC Championship. Their wild finish was memorable and it brought the 49ers campaign to the Super Bowl to a grinding halt. The defining defeat by the Seahawks led the 49ers on a downward spiral. Ultimately, the Niners roster saw an overwhelming turnover with four different head coaches for four seasons.
Now that the Seahawks are no longer reigning supreme, this could be the fresh injection that can boost the 49ers relevance in the game.
49ers
As the season ended, Garoppolo at quarterback saw the Niners finish on a high. Perhaps, they have the potential and energy to compete for a divisional title. Niners general manager John Lynch emphasizes that their strategy is to effectively compete for championships.
Rams
The arrival of Coach McVay seems to have turned around the fortunes of the LA Rams. They finished with an average of 29.9 points per game which is a great improvement from the previous season which was 14.0 points per game; the worst in the NFL. The Rams coach acknowledges that the contenders are strong teams but is confident that his team is more than ready to push the bar and rise to the occasion.
Cardinals
This NFC West team has seen major change at the top. Steve Wilks is the new head coach; he takes over from Bruce Arians who chose to retire after five seasons. Wilks is the former defensive coordinator in Carolina. Right now, the Cardinals have not signed a quarterback yet. Indeed, this will take a lot of consideration to fit the right man in the critical position. According to Cardinals general manager Steve Keim, there are only three options which are the draft, a trade option or a free agent sign up. According to Keim, this position will require a very experienced player who is youthful and easy to mold.
