Eric Reid in Free Agency Quagmire Even as He Considers Change of Tact
The free agency is well into its second week and free agent Eric Reid is yet to secure any deals. He confirmed this on Thursday as he returned from his younger brother's school pro day.

The 49ers management, including general manager John Lynch, were present seemingly looking for 49ers players for the next season. So far, there has been not much activity for Reid and he said that the same trend will continue into the next week.
The free agency has already seen its busiest days pass and some of the most demanded players have already been scooped up. Reid suspects that the protests during the national anthem might have something to do with his situation.
He has also confirmed that he will have to change his protest tactics even though he will not drop the cause fully. He said that his commitment to raising awareness about social issues in the country is still firm and unwavering.
Pertaining how the account of the protests took an unprecedented narrative last year, he rules out possibilities of protesting during the national anthem again. The same predicament Reid is facing was is what Colin Kaepernick faced a year ago.
Kaepernick revealed obliquely that he had plans of standing during the national anthem last year. His prospects nevertheless did not look good during the season and he was not able to secure any deals even though there was demand.
While Justin Reid had plans for standing during the national anthem in 2017 to protest racial tensions, he had a change of mind after the situation eased up. Reid's prospects are not as bad as his brother as he might get signed early next month. His decision to not stand during the national anthem has been constant and he affirms that no teams have asked about it.
Justin Reid has indicated that he and his brother see social and national issues differently. For Justin, his methods of supporting causes are less dramatic and antagonizing.
49ers general manager Lynch has also commented on Eric Reid's situation. He confirms that while the team has not taken him back yet, the likelihoods of picking him for the team are always there. Lynch reckons that the slow-moving market is the reason why Reid is still out in the cold. The 49ers already have other safeties that are certain to take starting spots even if Reid were to return. They include Jaquiski Tartt, Jimmie Ward, and Adrian Colbert.
As for Reid, he has no issues returning to the 49ers but there has been no contract offers given to him. He says that he would be willing to consider if there was a contract in place but that is not something he can decide for himself.
Reid has scheduled six pre-draft visits to the Lions, Vikings, Seahawks, Steelers, Panthers, and Eagles.
In other news, 49ers are keen on getting LaDarius Gunter on the team. The cornerback who was at the Panthers and the Packers is currently a free agent. Jaylen Watkins, a defensive back is also in consideration for the same spot. Quenton Meeks is the most likely player the 49ers will get from Stanford.
