The San Fransisco 49ers odds for qualification to the playoffs were dealt a huge blow after they were defeated by the Seahawks in week 12. Among the players who were instrumental for the 49ers season was Marquise Goodwin.
After the end of 2016 season, the 49ers were looking to overhaul certain departments of their team. The wide receiver position was particularly targeted in this overhaul. The 2017 season saw the entry of Pierre Garon and Marquise Goodwin for this position. Marquise signed a two year contract is renowned for his pace, as former Olympian who participated in the long jump.
Marquise Goodwin is synonymous with injury problems throughout his career. Before arriving in San Fransisco he played for the Buffalo Bills and in 2014 he marred with all manner of injuries which left him sidelined for a long time. The 2016 season was his best for the Bills where he finished with 29 receptions, covered 431 yards and made 3 touch downs.
In the 2017 season and his first for the 49ers the first games for Marquise were hit and miss. In week 10 match against the New York Giants, Marquise has a terrific game. His 83 yard touch down which was also his first in 49ers colors was nominated for the Bridgestone's NFL play of the year.
In the match against the Eagles on week 8, Pierre Garon suffered a season ending injury on the neck. This was the turning point for Marquise's season. Before the injury he was at 20 receptions for 349 yards and after the unfortunate event Marquise went on to post 36 receptions for 613 yards. Jeremy Garappolo, a quarterback, was also instrumental for Marquise new found form as he was responsible for spreading many balls out to Marquise.
In week 17, Marquise injury woes came back to haunt him which arguably prevented him from reaching the 1000 yards although he posted career best numbers. He finished the season with 56 receptions and 962 yards. These records saw him finish as the number 3 player in yards per catch. Even with the injury he sustained towards the end of the season he showed a lot of promise and looks to be a good fit in the 49ers team. In the just concluded season, the San Fransisco 49ers recorded their most win in a season since the year 2014.
With the end of the 2017 season, it is time to prepare for the 2018 and the San Fransisco 49ers like any other team are looking to upgrade their roaster. They have the 9th pick on the draft picks and it will be interesting to see who they pick. In the 2017 season, their pass catchers were not in their best of forms and it is very likely that this will be given the first priority. One thing is for sure though, based on the mid part of the season, they will be looking to bring in player like Marquise Goodwin.
