Jimmy Garoppolo once again provided a great game when his team needed him. On November 26, 49ers finally got to use Garoppolo whom they traded in October. Back then, Garoppolo arrived from the New England Patriots, the famous multiple-time winners of the Super Bowl, which definitely influenced the 49ers odds in the next game and the games to come after that. This time, the San Francisco team hosted the Seattle Seahawks and on that Sunday, they lost by 24 to 13.
There was some good news coming from this game, including the short but impressive debut of Jimmy Garoppolo for the 49ers. In the fourth quarter of the game, with over 60 seconds remaining, C.J. Beathard exited the field. This happened after the same rookie got hit and this resulted in an injured left leg. With him out, the head coach of the 49er, Kyle Shanahan, turned to Garoppolo. The new quarterback entered, which thrilled the crowd present at the Levi’s Stadium.
Their enthusiasm was well-founded because he did not disappoint them, his team, or his coach. Immediately after entering the field, the 26-year-old managed to do 2-of-2 pass attempts for the 18-yard marker. He was also able to achieve a touchdown. The crowd at the stadium loved every second of this, even though the game was lost. According to the statistic provided by ESPN, the same was the first touchdown that the 49ers had made in two games with the Seahawks they played this season.
But, unfortunately for Garoppolo, the same great performance might not have been enough to get the starting position. After their loss, the coach Kyle Shanahan made a statement to the press and said that Garoppolo could remain a backup. Shanahan explained to ESPN that this position is tough and that he did not want for anyone to get hurt, but that Jimmy will get another week. He also said that he and the 49ers coaching team will work with Garoppolo both on Monday and Tuesday. After that, his plan is to see what happens in Wednesday’s practice. He added that the performance provided by Garoppolo had no effect on his decision about their starting quarterback. Still, he must make this decision ahead of their game against the Chicago Bears in Week 13.
At the same time, the status of C.J. Beathard remains unclear. He managed to get to the post-game press conference, but the media noticed he was limping on his way there. Beathard said that he will get an MFI scan on November 27 and also said that his hip got injured as well. There is little doubt that Kyle Shanahan is wishing hard that all of this turns out to be a minor injury. 49ers odds in the next game are reflecting this uncertainty and all are anxiously awaiting Shanahan’s decision.
At the same time, Beathard performance so far has been more than solid. In his seven appearances and five starts for the 49ers this season, he managed to attain 224 attempts and 123 completions for 1,430 yards. He also scored four touchdowns. During the same games, Beathard got sacked exactly 19 times and tallied no more than six interceptions.
