The San Francisco 49ers have never been more optimistic going into a new season. The players are full of confidence thanks to their brilliant back to back wins in the playoffs last season. Even though there is nothing wrong with optimism, counting your chicks before they hatch can prove disappointing. This reality however does not dampen the gusto in the offensive tackle Joe Staley. In January, Staley suggested that they are ruling the playoffs and other NFL teams had better watch their backs. There is no doubt that the season odds for 49ers are looking up now more than ever.
You will recall that in their first 11 games of the postseason, the Niners had started off on a very low note. They only managed one win out of the 11. This bad luck was short-lived as the 49ers night in shining armor came to the rescue. Jimmy Garoppolo declared a major offensive campaign leading to five straight wins. Of course, this performance left rookie coach Kyle Shanahan a very happy fellow. At first, the head coach could not get the right crop of talent to his team. It took the ingenuity of general manager John Lynch to pull the strings and secure Garoppolo from the second round pick at New England.
The celebrated quarterback was seen as lining up to take over from Tom Brady when he finally hang his boots. However, the Niners quick action to bag this talent started to bear consistent fruit in no time. This was the missing ingredient in Shanahan's arsenal to create a formidable offensive weapon. Garoppolo was able to inspire and polish the average receivers with his quick releases and tight ball placement. To this end, the mundane lineup was activated to record wins after wins. The Niners' season definitely ended on a high as they effectively disciplined the Jaguars with 44 silencing points.
This winning frenzy can easily paralyze the 49ers and in light of this, the players will most likely not be taking chances. In this game, there is simply no room for settling amid the hype. Any move going forward can make or break the team. Having said all this, the Niners have a lot going for them. From a vibrant quarterback to a youthful head coach and an $80 million figure in cap space. This is the second largest in the entire NFL. Many free agents will only be happy to join the team. The 49ers are also proud to be nurturing great talent in the defensive end. Linebacker Reuben Foster and defensive end DeForest Buckner are just the few fresh talents to mention
The San Francisco 49ers have a youthful staff most of whom are gaining their best experience now. This can be both a strength and a weakness. Many fans can only hope that the team continues to soar even higher. The top question that begs is whether the Niners will make the playoffs. The NFC West is looking fairly fine with Cardinals and Seahawks out of the way. However, the Rams have created a major roadblock after signing the revered cornerback Marcus Peters. There are so many expectations from the Niners and when they bring more talent on board, their future could be brighter. Whether the bubble will soon burst is a wait and see.
