The free agency commenced with a lot of activity surrounding it in both the media circles and fans' quarters. Among the key things observed recently is the changing odds of the San Francisco 49ers since the start of the free agency.
The 49ers made some key moves that have greatly affected their Super Bowl odds. Prior to the free agency, the 49ers had 20/1 odds to take Super Bowl 53. After the free agency, however, the odds now stand at 14/1. These odds were recorded by Bovada and they reflect the changing profile since the conclusion of Super Bowl 52. The 49ers odds to win next Super Bowl will be determined by both the free agency and the draft that will take place later on.
The recent odds have pitted the 49ers against some key rivals. Compared to the Rams, the 49ers are now neck-and-neck with the team that was previously rated better. This is also observed when the 49ers are ranked alongside the Green Bay Packers. the Rams, the 49ers, and the Green Bay Packers are all now tied at fifth only a week after the free agency started. The preliminary odds might definitely change in the coming weeks but as it stands now, things can only change marginally. Looking at the Rams, their odds have also improved albeit not in a huge manner compared to the 49ers. The Rams moved from 18/1 to their current odds. The Packers, on the other hand, have seen the reverse happen where they dropped from 9/1 to their current odds. Some of the teams that have not seen much change include the New England Patriots who are still at 5/1. The Vikings are currently at 9/1 while the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers are at 17/2 and 12/1 respectively.
There are many things that could have resulted in the recent odds but the main issue is the status of Garoppolo on the team. Before he signed up for an extension, the odds were not looking as they are now. After he confirmed his extension, however, the odds changed positively and this is an indicator of the robustness that he brings to the team. Garoppolo's status on the team was not very clear as he could have as well not signed the extension. This is why the odds-maker purposely let that obscurity be reflected on the odds. The confirmation of the extension also meant that the team had better chances of making definitive moves at the free agency that would strengthen the team. The free agents that have been signed are also thus a consequence of the confirmation of Garoppolo's status on the team.
The current updates on the NFL odds will provide an insight to the teams until later next month when the draft is concluded. At that time, additional updates will be made to reflect the odds for the teams as they will be then. The final results at that time will also provide a more insightful look at the performance of the team's based on how their final roster will be like.
We can safely say that Washington Redskins will not be a place for SS Eric Reid in free agency after beings at odds with CB Josh Norman in the player coalition this season before it split apart. Source said it ended almost with face off between the two players. #Redskins#49ers
